Not only content is king but the business model too
Great ideas can be exported but local tastes need to be served,
The business model for digital is still unfolding
Online video is exploding but profits are not, even Youku Tudou is not making money
No one knows who the next Tencent or Alibaba of the media industry is
Chinese producers are still only focused on their domestic market
Companies have to add scale and get big
The barriers to entry are getting lower and lower
The world is becoming a smaller place with globalization and technology
There's coal miner investment money available
Technology is allowing producers to go global
The broadband buildout is buff
This does not mean everyone gets rich
It means competition gets even tougher
It's one of the reasons the gap between rich and poor is getting greater
The superstar used to have a market of 50,000
He/she now has a market of 3 billion
The best and the strongest will get very wealthy
Piracy is still spoiling the party
Regulators are spoiling the party
But sophisticated niche product can still win big!
Nobody knows what next will fly!
Rest assured TV is not dead
